SOME MEMORIES OF WATFORD GIRLS GRAMMAR SCHOOL - 1961 T0 1966

Hi, just thought I would drop a line to you and let you know that there were 7 of us attending the school from 1961 - 1966 that have remained friends over the years. One of us, Barbara Crouch, has passed away from breast cancer but the rest of us Linda Dowdall, Sandra Meek, Wynona Massey, Stephanie Stevens, Janette Jeffreys and Jennifer Child (myself) all names when we were at school, have all remained friends over the years. We hope to meet up in England for our 60th birthdays next year. I live the furthest away in Edmonton Alberta Canada but have attended meets in Cassiobury Park, Watford, Aberdeen etc over the years. Both Linda and Wynona have been here to visit me. Wynona brought me the book on the school last year which was so enjoyable to read about the history of the school. I hope if we can to come to the scholl and have pictures taken outside next year.......thanks for the memories...

Lady’s Close House

Having looked carefully at the capital development needs of the school and the level of funding currently available to us, we now intend to focus our energy on restoring Lady's Close House.

This is the most historic building on the school site and is central to every girl's development at WGGS. Lady's Close is the Y7 base, where pupils have their own space and Form Rooms. The girls have special affection for the building because it represents the start of their careers at WGGS. The grand old house is also the home of the English Department.

The building is well over 100 years old and is in dire need of modernisation and refurbishment. We have ambitious plans to recapture the splendour and elegance of its history, while incorporating the technology and physical improvements that will bring Lady's Close House into the 21st century in appropriate WGGS style.
