I am delighted that you are interested in our school. I hope that you will enjoy visiting our website; it will show you some of the reasons why Watford Grammar School for Girls is such a successful school and well known nationally for its academic standards.

As the Head, I am particularly conscious of my responsibility for maintaining the best of the traditional values of this school, while offering a forward-looking education to equipgirls for life in the twenty-first century. Our motto is Sperate Parati - Go forward with preparation. With the motto in mind, I aim to ensure that each girl:

• Is encouraged to achieve excellence in all areas of the curriculum;
• Achieves a sense of dignity, personal responsibility and self esteem;
• Learns to work as part of a team;
• Has an open mind and the ability to make and understand moral judgements;
• Receives a balanced and broad education and is equipped with those skills necessary to undertake a lifetime of learning.

I see it as part of my function to provide an ordered working environment in which the highest standards of work and behaviour are expected of all girls, an environment where a community based on mutual respect, tolerance, trust and understanding is able to flourish. With my colleagues I aim to provide a curriculum which challenges the girls and promotes their academic and social development.

In a large school the whole community - pupils, staff, parents and Governors - should be aware of what the school is trying to achieve and how that achievement is being planned and organised. Success in achieving our aims and objectives is dependent on the spirit of understanding shared by all involved in the life and work of the school. We are a developing school, continually trying to improve the quality of education we provide.
