Watford Grammar School

Information & Communication Technology

Information Technology is a dynamic area with constantly challenging and changing situations, which need to be addressed.

We at Watford Girls tackle this area by monitoring and revising our curriculum to meet the needs of our pupils. Our team of people, from the network manager to the Head of ICT are all involved in considering every option that will deliver a friendly and interactive environment. As a successful school we are aware that ICT has a major role to play in our pupils development as seen by three of our aims.

Aims:

  1. To develop, maintain and stimulate pupils' curiosity, interest and enjoyment in I.C.T. and to encourage pupils to have open, enquiring minds and to perceive I.C.T. in the context of a wider body of knowledge, skills and vocabulary. Pupils should ideally become autonomous users of I.C.T. with the associated skills supporting life long study, the pursuit of personal interests and prospective employment in a modern technological society.
  2. To enable pupils to acquire appropriate, transferable I.C.T. skills, knowledge and understanding - progression must feature in the acquisition of I.C.T. skills. All staff should then feel confident that pupils have a basic level of I.C.T. capability which can be applied to their' learning in a specific area of the Curriculum. Pupils should feel confident enough with their transferable skills that they are encouraged to use unfamiliar software.
  3. To enable all pupils to have equal access to I.C.T. and to experience success in their work.

Lady’s Close House

Having looked carefully at the capital development needs of the school and the level of funding currently available to us, we now intend to focus our energy on restoring Lady's Close House.

This is the most historic building on the school site and is central to every girl's development at WGGS. Lady's Close is the Y7 base, where pupils have their own space and Form Rooms. The girls have special affection for the building because it represents the start of their careers at WGGS. The grand old house is also the home of the English Department.

The building is well over 100 years old and is in dire need of modernisation and refurbishment. We have ambitious plans to recapture the splendour and elegance of its history, while incorporating the technology and physical improvements that will bring Lady's Close House into the 21st century in appropriate WGGS style.
