WGGS is fortunate to have within its ranks many talented musicians who have an active role in music outside school. Many sing in local choirs, play in local bands and play in the many excellent local orchestras. A large number of our girls enter the school with music qualifications behind them - a few of those are selected for the school based on their musical ability. Many girls in the school take up the opportunity of having instrumental lessons in school with one of our excellent peripatetic teachers. As you might expect the standard in the extra-curricular groups that we run is impressive.
As well as putting a great deal of effort into preparation for a full programme of concerts during the year the music staff take great pride in the teaching of the subject in class. Key stage 3 lessons are marked by their lively innovation (both from teachers and pupils!) and the fresh and engaging way in which the National Curriculum is delivered. GSCE and A Level numbers are very healthy: Usually these are around 25 for GSCE and 6-8 for A Level. The girls achieve excellent results with a high number of A*s at GCSE and As at A level.
In short the Department is a busy, energetic and friendly environment. Do use the links to find out more.
