Life in the Biology Department
The Biology Department offers a wide range of exciting opportunities for students to enrich their understanding of Biological issues:

- Biology Olympiad.
Year 13 Biologists take part in the Biology Olympiad, run annually by the Institute of Biology.

- The Biology Challenge.
Year 9 and 10 Biologists have the opportunity to test their Biological knowledge by taking part in the IOB Biology Challenge.
- Biology Society.
Run by an enthusiastic and committed team of year 13 students, BioSoc offers a wide range of activities for Biology students throughout the school. Guest speakers, careers advice, experiments, dissection, revision sessions, interview preparation, films and trips out make this an exciting aspect of being a Biology student at WGGS.
- Oxbridge sessions.
For those who are applying to study medicine or Natural Sciences at Oxbridge, lunchtime sessions are held which aim to support the girls and assist them with their interview skills. The girls enjoy the opportunity to give presentations, research and discuss topics of interest and to feel better prepared for the challenge of forthcoming interviews.
- Peer mentoring.
Volunteers from year 13 carry out mentoring of students from year 12. This helps both sets of students with their revision and preparation for examinations.
