GCSE
At key stage 4 students follow the AQA Science B syllabus. Those achieving a level 7 at Key Stage 3 study for three individual Science GCSEs, in Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Other girls study for two GCSEs, Core and Additional Science.
Every Chemistry class is taught by a Chemistry specialist in a well-equipped lab. The course contains a significant amount of practical work, which both allows the development of new skills and supports the understanding of the theory.
Coursework takes the form of an internally standardised assessment (ISA) along with a practical skills assessment (PSA). These are carried out entirely within the school day and constitute 25% of the marks available.
At GCSE the study of Chemistry includes themes from the world around us to the world of the atom, and the application of these ideas to students’ everyday lives, as displayed on this panel.

Students enjoy and achieve well on this course and a high proportion choose to study Chemistry in the Sixth Form.
