Thank you for your enquiry about using Watford Grammar School for Girls as your exam centre. I do hope you find the information in this email helpful and clear. We are continuing as if exams will take place as normal, however, we must obviously bear in mind that things can change in the current pandemic climate. I am advising you now that if exams are changed in any way, my focus will have to be on the students on roll here at school taking exams that we teach them. If you are happy to continue in that knowledge, please read on.
We do not accept entry requests for any language exams, practical or non-examined assessment units for any subjects and we are unable to accommodate any access arrangements (e.g. extra time). Also, we no longer offer the i-GCSE exams or exams using the CAIE exam board.
The fees we charge cover all the necessary work and documentation needed for you to be able to take your exams at this approved exam centre. They also include the cost of sending you your results in August (if you don’t want to collect them in person) and your exam certificates the following January. Please note double award GCSE’s attract double fees.
Our deadline to register for exams in the Summer Season (May/June) is 15th December previous, by which time full payment will need to have been paid. Late registration can be accepted subject to the payment of higher fees. Payment is by bank transfer into our bank account and there are no instalment facilities available.
It is imperative that you provide the full correct exam entry details at the time of your initial enquiry – exam board, subject title, syllabus unit codes and, if relevant, any tier level details.
The email address you provide on the External Candidate Details Form will be used, in all instances, to communicate with you. Please ensure it is correct. If you wish to provide an additional email address please ensure this is put on the form when it is first sumbitted.
Once we have accepted your entry request, received payment and made the entries, there is no refund available if you want to withdraw.
In the event of your requested exams being cancelled by us, the exam board or an official agency, a refund will be paid. This will be calculated as the difference between what you have paid to us, less a non-refundable 10% administration fee. If we have paid monies over to the exam board on your behalf, we will have to retrieve those monies before we can make your refund.
If you are registered by 15th December, a Candidate Statement of Entry will be emailed to you during February. You will need to check this document carefully to make sure you have been entered for the correct exams, and contact us immediately if there are any errors. Once we have finalised your individual timetable it will be emailed to you with a set of formal notices and warnings from the JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) detailing the procedures and behaviours which are expected from you during your exams.
Our exam centre start times are 9:00am and 1:30pm. You will need to be here no later than 30 mins before the exam start time shown on your timetable. Please go to the main School Office to sign in and wait there to be collected. If you arrive after the stated start times, and the exam has started, we may not be able to allow you to enter the exam venue and sit the exam.
It is normal for us to ask external candidates to bring photo ID (passport or driving licence) with them on their first exam day, as a double check against the photo already submitted with the registration form, and to always have their photo ID with them whenever they are on our School premises.
Obviously you will need to be fully prepared and informed about the syllabus and exam unit contents, be equipped for the exam in terms of black pens, pencils etc. and the normal rules about no mobile ‘phones or electronic devices in the exam room will apply. Our own students will, of course, be in full school uniform, and the expectation is that you will be ‘smart casual’ (no jeans, shorts, sportswear, bare mid-riffs, offensive printed language on clothing, sunglasses or hats please). Coats and jackets will need to be taken off when in the exam venue.
Please note that we do not take any responsibility if you do not receive the timetable and documents that are sent out. It is for you to ensure that you have received all the necessary information you need from us by 1st May, before the exam season starts. We do not chase up external candidates for any missed exams.
There will be an opportunity in early March to come and have a walk round the School and see the possible venues where you may take your exams. I have three sessions available : Wednesday 3rd March at 9:15am; Thursday 4th March at 10:30am or Tuesday 9th March at 12noon. Please let me know if you would like to book a visit.
As there is no parking available on the school premises this would give you a chance to try out the journey and consider possible travel/parking options. There is a lot of parking available around Watford, within a short walk to the school site. Watford High Street train station is approximately a 10 minute walk away.
