Grant received for a brand new eight classroom teaching block
Currently, the historic building of Lady’s Close serves as the home of our English department. While it holds significant historical value for the school, the increase in student numbers since 2018 means that most of its rooms no longer meet the requirements the school needs for teaching. As a result, English classes are now held in classrooms originally designated for other subjects.
The new teaching block will transform our school by providing a state-of-the-art building with sustainability at its heart. This development will ease pressure on the timetable, eliminate the need for makeshift classrooms, and create an inspiring environment where students can thrive. By delivering modern, purpose-built spaces, we ensure that our outstanding school continues to offer the exceptional learning experience every student needs.
The Department for Education grant will fund the construction of the new building, supported by a generous contribution from the Women of Vision Trust. However, these funds do not cover the essential internal fixtures and fittings needed to make the space functional. Without the support of the entire WGGS community, this building will remain empty—unable to provide the high-quality teaching environment our students deserve.
