The school runs a wide range of exciting and stimulating extra curricular activities for all year groups. If sport is your passion, there are a number of school teams to choose from. Equally, music and drama have a strong place in the school and there is a chance to participate in a wide range of productions every year. All extra curricular activities are designed to develop confidence and encourage students to try something new, while enhancing their school experience.

  • Sports Clubs

Sports Clubs at Watford Grammar School for Girls aim to encourage all students to find sports that they enjoy and to inspire a life-long love of sport and fitness. These range from Badminton, Football, Catch-up Swimming, Swim Squad and Gymnastics to Hockey, Tennis, Netball, Dance and Bollywood Dance. School teams run in a variety of sports across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and students in these teams play matches against a wide range of other schools. Team successes are celebrated and loses are used as an opportunity to learn from and to develop resilience in a supportive environment.

  • Music Clubs

Music is the heartbeat of WGGS. We have vibrant extracurricular provision, a knockout team of visiting peripatetic music teachers and three classroom teachers. There is a huge sense of community within the department and a strong sense of belonging. There is a Music Lead who is part of the Head Girl team and two music prefects. They support younger girls, are an extra pair of hands in larger groups where there are sometimes more than a hundred girls involved (Junior Choir and Orchestra) and rehearse smaller ensembles. Opportunities to perform are huge ranging from concerts, church services, prize giving, musicals, Hertfordshire Music Concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and Hatfield House Chamber festival. We have a vast range of extracurricular groups: three orchestras, three choirs, Big Band, Concert Band, Wind Band and many smaller chamber ensembles. Furthermore, girls are encouraged to join Harrow Youth Orchestra, Watford Youth Orchestra, National Children’s Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and some girls attend the Junior Royal College, Royal Academy and Guildhall Schools of Music on Saturdays. We also take part in the National Festival of Music for Youth.
