Welcome to Watford Girls,

Our names are Amelia and Eliza and we understand how nerve-racking it can be to start a new school, especially one that is bigger and scarier than primary school, with heavier workloads and a class full of strangers. We are here to talk you through things and help quell your worries.

My name is Amelia and one thing I was anxious about before starting Year 7 was getting around the school. It was stressful thinking about how I could get lost and in trouble for being late. But all the teachers and older students were there to help and understood our confusion. Plus, the school feels tiny after a fortnight – and I’m not just saying that!

I’m Eliza and my main concern was making new friends. Only one of my primary school classmates was coming to Watford Girls wasn’t in my form. Some people who have never been to an all girls school say there can be mean girls, but that’s not true. The people you meet here are kind and helpful and you’re bound to have something in common. Within the first induction day, everybody is making friends and connecting with people so you can learn more about each other before the year even starts. Not only this, but there are other ways to make friends too, such as through the many clubs Watford Girls has to offer.

We realise the workload can seem alarming but we find that if we do homework the day it is set, it becomes a routine. Of course it can get a bit hectic, for example when you’re revising for tests, but as long as you work hard and put in the effort you will succeed.

We found the range of clubs astonishing; there are just so many! From drama to boost your confidence, and sports to keep you active and socialised, you are bound to spend your lunchtimes with people who share your interests. Another thing we both enjoyed are the concerts and trips available. At the concerts, different music clubs come together to present pieces of music they’ve been working on to students and parents. It’s an amazing way to boost your confidence and get used to performing to an audience. It’s also just really fun and nice to hear the other music groups performing because they are so incredibly talented. The occasional trips are a treat, with PGL and day trips to Watford and St Albans, you’ll find school life will always surprise you, in a good way of course!

In lessons, you will dive into subjects deeper than you have in primary school. One that you maybe didn’t like in primary school may become your new favourite as we study topics in greater depth and detail. Our favourite subjects are History and English. The in-depth analysis you do in English not only helps you understand a text but also develops amazing, lifelong writing skills that you will need for presentations. In History, we’ve learnt about so many interesting historical events and the lifestyles of ancient civilisations. It is really inspiring!

We think you’ll love Year Seven at Watford Girls because we definitely have! There are so many opportunities around the corner, and it will teach you lifelong skills and lessons for adulthood.

Best wishes, good luck, and enjoy visiting Watford Grammar School for Girls,

Eliza and Amelia
