Safeguarding is defined as protecting children from maltreatment, preventing impairment of children’s health or development, ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.

At Watford Grammar School for Girls, safeguarding is given the very highest priority. We have a safeguarding team which includes the Deputy Headteacher as Designated Safeguarding Lead and the Directors of Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads. The team works together to train staff to ensure they have a thorough understanding of safeguarding and are able to identify and report concerns. The team then plan and coordinate support and action, involving outside agencies as necessary.
