“Last Friday, we were part of a small group of Sixth Formers who competed in a debate competition at the Houses of Parliament. We competed against several schools in the Watford area and debated in number of knock out rounds on topics including why single sex schools should not be banned!

We made it to the semi-finals, and this was an incredible opportunity as we able to practice our debating skills in the Grand Committee Room; this is where MPs advocate for their constituents on a daily basis. We also met MPs Dean Russell and Gagan Mohindra who spoke about how important it is for more women to be included within the House of Commons and House of Lords.

We would like to thank Miss Shanahan and Mrs Meerabux for helping us prepare over the past few weeks and facilitating this trip.

Overall, the day was really inspiring, and we hope to continue organise debates like this within our school and spread our passion for politics. Make sure to look out for Government and Politics Society and Debate Club announcements within the upcoming weeks for more information.”
