2020 hasn’t been very kind to us, and whilst some people did their part by staying at home, there were others who chose to take a forward approach to support those in need.

One of them is Monica Leitao, a year 13 student who was one of the first Response Volunteers at Watford General Hospital.

‘Everyone was going through such a tough time and the NHS always help me, so it’s only right I give back at such a critical time’ Monica explains.

From constructing PPE to befriending lonely patients, Monica has offered her assistance where she can and has firmly established herself as a senior member of the team. In addition to her daily duties, Monica has also been training new volunteers.

When asked about Monica’s contribution, Lily another volunteer says, “…I only worked with her a few times, but she brought a smile to everyone’s face when she helped out – staff, patients and volunteers..”

Since March, Monica has donated more than 200 hours and has continued volunteering 3 days a week whilst completing her A Levels – an impressive feat!

Keep it up, Monica! We are very proud of you.
